Twelve kinds of plumbing work, each on its own page

Pick the one that matches the fault. Each page explains what usually causes it here and what the repair involves.

Emergency Plumber

Burst geysers, bursts and backed-up sewers: water off first, then the fault.

Burst Pipe Repairs

A cut-out and a proper joint, then the line tested under pressure.

Geyser Repairs

Element, thermostat, valves and drip tray tested before a new geyser is mentioned.

Geyser Installation

Replacement geysers fitted with every SANS 10254 safety item, not just a new tank.

Gas Geyser Installation

Hot water off the grid, with the model matched to the water pressure you actually get.

Leak Detection

Meter test first, then the leak located to a point before a tile comes up.

Pool Leak Detection

Evaporation ruled in or out, then the shell, lines and fittings tested.

Water Pressure Repairs

Gauge readings that separate a City supply problem from your own pipes.

Drain Unblocking

Blocked sewers, gullies and kitchen drains cleared and run before we leave.

Drain Camera Inspection

CCTV down the line to find roots, breaks and whose side the problem is on.

Bathroom Plumbing

Renovation plumbing for bathrooms and kitchens, with approved fittings.

Commercial Plumbing

Shops, offices, medical rooms and complexes, planned around trading hours.

How a job runs, and what you can hold us to

Most bad plumbing experiences come down to money and waiting. These four rules answer both.

  • The call-out fee, before we book

You hear what the call-out costs and what it covers while we book, not at the door. If the fault sounds like the City’s side of the meter, you hear that on the phone instead.

  • A time window that holds

You get a window when we book. If it has to move, the message reaches you before the window has passed, not after you have taken the day off.

  • An invoice you can read

Every part by name and price, and the hours spent on site. An insurer, a buyer or the next plumber can check it line by line.

  • The fault found before the fix is priced

A meter test before a leak hunt, a gauge before a pump, a camera before a spade. The quote is for the fault that was found, not the biggest job it could be.

Faerie Glen’s water stops and starts, and your plumbing feels it

Most of the water in Faerie Glen’s taps is bought in. The City’s own Rietvlei plant supplies just over 9% of the Garsfontein Reservoir, and by the City’s account the rest comes from Rand Water. When Rand Water stops pumping for maintenance or a power failure, the reservoirs that feed this suburb drain down.

That has happened often enough to plan around. Between January 2023 and August 2026 the City published at least ten cuts or curtailments touching Faerie Glen’s supply zones, from a 30-hour shutdown in February 2023 to four and a half days without Rand Water pumping while a new pipeline was tied in at Mapleton in 2025.

Faerie Glen is also split across several supply points, high-level and low-level reservoirs among them. The City’s statements warn that high-lying reservoirs are the last to recover, which is why one street can have water while the next has none, and why pressure can stay low for days after the water is back.

For a house, the consequences repeat. A geyser left switched on can heat an empty tank and burn its element. Air pushed through the pipes when supply returns can spin the meter. A tap left open during the cut floods the kitchen when the water comes back, and the City’s by-laws say that damage is the owner’s.

None of that means something is wrong with your plumbing. It means the plumbing is being stopped and restarted from the street, and a few habits protect it.

When a cut is announced: geyser off at the board, every tap closed, and when the water returns, one outside tap open first until it runs clear.

From the form to a working tap

The request goes to the plumber, and the plumber replies to you.

  1. Send the request

Your name, number, suburb and what you can see. A photo helps, and we may ask for one when we reply.

  2. We reply and book

The fault is talked through, and a visit is booked for a window that suits you.

  3. Find, then quote

The fault is tested and shown to you. The repair is priced before the repair starts.

  4. Fix, test, invoice

The repair is tested under flow or pressure, the area is cleaned, and the invoice is itemised.

Questions people ask before they book

Price, coverage and what happens after you press send.

How much does a plumber charge per hour in Faerie Glen?

It depends on the time of day and the job, and on most invoices the hourly rate is not the biggest line: parts and the call-out usually are. The plumbing prices page sets out published Pretoria ranges for call-outs, labour and the common jobs, each with its source and date.

Is there a fee for coming out to look?

Yes, there is a call-out fee, because getting a plumber to your gate costs money whether or not you go ahead. The amount and what it covers are given while we book, so the visit holds no surprises. If your description points to the City’s side of the meter, you hear that on the phone and keep your money.

Which part of Pretoria is Faerie Glen in?

Pretoria east, in the City of Tshwane. Faerie Glen was established in 1974 on the southern slopes of the Bronberg, beside the Faerie Glen Nature Reserve, with Lynnwood Glen to the west and Garsfontein across Atterbury Road to the south. The street postal code is 0081.

What should I do when the City announces a water cut?

Switch the geyser off at the distribution board, close every tap, and fill a few containers. When the water comes back, open one outside tap first and let the air and grit run out before you use the indoor taps or switch the geyser back on. The City is not liable for damage from taps left open when supply returns, so the closed taps matter.

What if the fault turns out to be on the City’s side?

Then it is the City’s to fix, and we will say so rather than invoice you for it. The connection pipe up to your meter belongs to the City; everything after it is yours. City faults go to 012 358 9999 or waterleaks@tshwane.gov.za, and it helps to keep the reference number.

Do you work in complexes, estates and townhouses?

Yes. Faerie Glen has many boomed-off estates, duets and sectional-title complexes, and in those the pipes on common property belong to the body corporate, not to you. We check where your unit’s pipes end before quoting, so the right party pays.

What happens after I send the form?

Your request goes straight to the plumber’s inbox. The reply comes to the number you gave, to talk through the fault and agree when to come. Nothing is booked until you say yes.

Which suburbs around Faerie Glen do you cover?

Faerie Glen and the suburbs around it: Garsfontein, Moreleta Park, Lynnwood and Lynnwood Glen, Die Wilgers, Equestria, Wapadrand, Olympus, Constantia Park, Waterkloof Glen, Menlyn, Silver Lakes, Mooikloof, Woodhill and Murrayfield.
